can't run programs

Earlier I tried to uninstall a program and it left some files in the
directory, so I tried to delete them. It said access denied. So i changed the
file extension to .txt and deleted it. Now all my programs are opening as
..txt files (notepad) and I can't get my programs to run, except Internet.
What system file have I messed up and how do I repair it. I can't even run
system restore because that too opens as a notepad file. Your urgent help
with this will be much appreciated

Well that's foxed me. Uninstalling a game like that should have no affect on
your system at all. You should have been able to delete the whole folder
after running the uninstall without any problem.
Have you tried running in safemode to see if you can run system restore.??
