can't repair OL2000 pst file

greetings; I have an addin I use to synchronize computers; it is OsaSync. I
get an OsaSync error (The following error occurred: Error number: 424 /
Procedure: frmTimers.tmrItemDeleted_Timer). The kind folks at OsaSync give
me this advice to solve the problem:

Please run Detect and Repair from the Outlook Help menu. Somehow there are
low level errors and if they are caused by corrupted data in your .pst
file(s) then running Detect and Repair can possibly solve them. If it doesn't
solve the errors you can create a new fresh .pst file (Outlook menu file -
Data file management - button Add and click ok on the new outlook data file
window). Then move your folders to this new .pst file (drag and drop). You
cannot move the contents of the default folders like contacts and calendar
but you can select all items in these folders (Control-A) and then drag and
drop them into the corresponding folders in the new .pst file. After moving
all the content then close the old .pst file by right-clicking on the top
level folder and choosing Close.

Detect and Repair didn't fix it. I'm hesitant about making the new outlook
folder unless I know I will still have access to Outlook Today and I won't
lose all my rules and synchronizations. I assume after I copy my folders,
contacts, and calendar items to the new folder and close the old folder I
would rename the old and new folders so the new is now "outlook.pst." Is
that right? Anybody have any advice on a better way to clean up and/or
replace the outlook file?

I did a trial run and Outlook wouldn't let me close my root pst folder
"Outlook Today" because it says it contains my pop3 mail, calendar items,
etc. I have not moved them all to the new folder yet so I don't know if this
will happen after I make the move.

Detect and Repair does not fix problems in a PST. It fixes problems in the
Outlook programs and DLLs on your PC. It doesn't touch the PST at all. The
program SCANPST.EXE can fix problems in a corrupted PST (sometimes).

Not surprising.

You can create a new PST at any time without jeopardizing the contents of
the PST that's your Outlook Today.

Certainly not. If you do, you'll corrupt your mail profile. There's noting
magic about the name of the PST. No matter what its name, if it's your
delivery location (i.e., the place containing your active Inbox, Outbox,
Calendar, etc.), it will always appear in Outlook as "Outlook Today". If
you create a new PST and make the new one your delivery location, that one
will appear as "Outlook Today" and the old one will show up with its
original name, like "Personal Folders".
Anybody have
any advice on a better way to clean up and/or replace the outlook
file?

It's tedious, though straight-forward process. To do the best job of
explaining, though, I'd have to know what your Outlook mode is. It will be
either "Internet Mail Only" (IMO) or "Corporate or Workgroup" (CW) mode.
The second line of Help>About will give this information. Post that and I
or someone else can answer with definitive steps.

Don't do anything yet. Post the information I requested first.
