Can't renewing IP address

U

Uzi Barzilai

Hi,
I have a cable Interment connection
with 4 computers (Linksys router)

Today one of the computers did not have
Internet connection or network access.
(The others do, tried to switch cables, no change)

Examining the Local Are Connection Status
I see "Invalid IP address"

(Right) clicking the small network connection icon
I "asked" for repair - I get the following:
"Windows could not finish repairing the problem
because the following action could not be completed
Renewing your IP address.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Uzi,
Try the following type CMD in the run command, then in the prompt type
ipconfig /flushdns or ipconfig /release or ipconfig /renew all the same
or try to Turn OFF the computers and the Routers then trun them ON back
again and see if the offending computer release the IP.
Please write back here
Hope this helps

Try un-plugging the modem for 30 secs and then plug it back in.

Thanks Nass & Rick,

I tried all three version of ipconfig.
The following is the output when I ran / release:

C:\>ipconfig /renew
Windows IP Configuration
An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : Access is
denied.

Any idea?,
Thanks,

The Linksys router is BEFSR41.
It works perfect for a few years, now.
I don't know firmware version.

As the 3 other computers work - I switched connections:
removed two network cables near the router and switched between.
The problem stays with the computer - not the specific syslink port.
Does it exonerate the router?
Any other idea?

Also,
Running C:\>ipconfig /renew
I received:

An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : Access is
denied.

What model/version is the router and what's the firmware version installed?
The Linksys BEFSR41 and BEFSR81 both had connection drop problems.
Linksys has updated firmware on their support/download site.

Thanks, Rick,

Un-plugging the router for some time and then plug it back in
restored the computer's Internet & network connections.

To check for new firmware, go to http://www.linksys.com/ and
download the latest for your model. They'll instruct you on how
to find your present level and how to download install it if they
have a later one.

If you wish to check for router updates, go to www.linksys.com
and click on support. You can look for firmware updates for your
model and download them. They will tell you how to check the
level of your router and how to install the new one.

if you have this prob only on one pc, disable the network adapter via
network settings and enable it again - this should help (mostly)

On the problem computer: Start/Control Panel/Network Connections/Local area
Connection/Support Tab/click the "Repair" button. when that action finishes,
try and connect again.
