Hi all, newbie here, i'l try and explain my best.
i want to reformat, i put my windows XP cd in my cd-rom and rebooted my
computer, after doing so it asked me to press any key to boot from cd, i do
and then it says, SETUP IS INSPECTING YOUR COMPUTERS HARDWARE and then it
just freezes/the screen stays black/blank.
i then tried going into bios and changing the boot sequence and making my
cd-rom #1 (primary) saved changed and rebooted, and the same thing happened.

any ideas?
i have an AMD Athlon Xp 2400,windows xp Home edition, version 2002, service
pack 2 (now that i updated the other day)...some1 suggested that maybe the
windows xp home edition cd i have is non bootable, is that possible?

Disconnect any peripheral devices, e.g printer.. all that you need connected
is keyboard, mouse and monitor..

hey mike, yeah ive tried that before, about 2 months i wanted to reformat
and it didnt work, i unplugged everything but what u mentioned, n still done
the same thing it does now, or it would start the windows setup install
files then stop/hang, never do a complete stall.

does any1 have any other suggestions?

Well....myself, I would just boot with a Windows 98 boot floppy (which
can be gotten at www.bootdisk.com), and just use *that* to reformat.
Then go ahead with the XP installation; I believe XP, upon installing,
will reformat the drive to NTFS (which it prefers), and then install.
Not sure about the last part because (I never thought I would say this
about a Microsoft OS)...since I've been using XP, I haven't had any
reason to reinstall it. (It's never crashed, gone south, gpf'd,
nothing; it just sit there and...works. Truly disconcerting.)

I would try going the way of DOS and boot the XP machine into Dos
mode. You'll have to move to the A: drive or something so be sure you
and a disk in the drive (but dont boot with it in the drive). Next
type "format C:" or the corresponding letter to your harddrive. It
will ask you yes or no to format. Im sure you'll want to choose yes.
Afterwards name the volume label when it asks (dont need to but can if
you wish.) Reboot to CD and see if that works any better.

Best of Luck
