Apparently the MS Word program on my desktop does not read
MS Works documents from my new notebook. Both use Windows
XP programs, and both utilize "Times New Roman" fonts. Am
I missing something or must I purchase a separate MS Works
program for my desktop? Or should I purchase a separate MS
Word program for my Notebook? (I.e., Which is better: Word
or Works?)

Works sux, dont buy a new anything, just grab ur disc for
office and install it on your notebook. Although I am
surprised that your word cant read the works documents,
it must be an outdated version of word.

Go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=B9E11E83-F51B-4977-
B572-8C042DF802C1&displaylang=en

(if the address of the link is split, copy and paste the entire address to
the address bar in Internet Explorer and then press the enter key)

Once at the web page, download the Works 6.0 Converter for Works and Word
Users. Then you will be able to view and save to the Works 6.0 format in
Word. If you have a previous version of Works, you'll probably find the
converter for your version of Works by running the setup from your Word or
Office CD, and selecting the option for Add or Remove Components, then
adding the converter for the version of Works that you're using.
