Can't read my a: drive

I can't read my a: drive. Windows XP diagnostics tells
me that it is working, but I get an error and it wont
read disks when I try to use it. ANy help appreciated
 
Did you format them on the drive that you're reading them
on?? Try that. XP will not read old floppys formated with
95-98
 
Few questions, does it work with any floppy? Have you
tried a known good floppy? Also, what kind of error
messages do you get? Do you get any noises or anything?
Does the floppy work if you boot to DOS, in fact, are you
even able to boot with a floppy?
