Hard drive crashed. Put in new HD and installed xp home sp2. In backup and
restore wizard (with the cd in the dr) it show no entry found. Under- files
currently onthe cd it show (readme file). When I open this it said- This is a
BACKUP CD:Except for this file the contentsof this disc must be accessed
using your backup software. When I backup my drive I did not have sp2 at
the time , does that make a deferance? Thanks for your help

What backup software did you use to make your backup?

You need the same program to restore a backup as you used to create the
backup/

I used window xp backup wizard before i upgraded to SP2
AFAIK, there isn't any "Windows XP Backup Wizard" built into XP. There
is the NT Backup program, but you have to install it if you have XP
Home. Install whatever backup program you were using.

There definitely is a backup wizard on XP Pro. There is no wizard on XP
Home because it would be useless without Ntbackup.
So, the OP needs to find the wizard and use that to restore his files. On
my system, you get to it through a long chain of icons:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools. Backup is on this pane.
To make life a little easier, you can drag the Backup icon wherever you
wish.

Thanks, Jim. I didn't know that since I've never used NTBackup because
1) I don't like backup programs that put the data in a proprietary
format; and 2) NTBackup isn't particularly flexible. I appreciate your
information.

I downloaded the NTBackup program from the CD that came with my computor
"Reinstallation CD Windows XP Home Edition" .It was in the Value Add Folder
This was all done before I asked my question. There was one thing That may
be the problem. When I backedup my files I had SP1 When I reinsrtalled I put
in the SP2 upgrade . Would that make a deferance?

Check here http://www.onecomputerguy.com/windowsxp_tips.htm#backup_home to
download a copy of the NTBackup program that can be installed on XP Home.
Another option might be to use the 30 day trial version of Backup MyPC
http://www.stompsoft.com/downloads.html which is what the NTBackup program
is built on.

AS far as I know that shouldn't make a difference.
