Can't re-activate windows

I recently had to change the power supply in my computer
case and after I completed that task I got a message at
boot up saying that my hardware had significantly changed
and I would need to re-active windows. I click yes to
try and reactivate windows, but I don't see anything on
that activation screen. I see a few boxes with the
letter x in them, but no text, or anything to click on.
Recently I have been having problems with some websites
not showing any of the pictures on the site. Instead it
is replaced with a small box with an x in it. I have to
assume this is a windows explorer problem and I therefore
can't view the activation screen, but how do I fix it?
I've re-installed internet explorer 6 with the service
pack but it still doesn't work

Next time think twice about buying software that's designed to disable
itself, because eventually it will.
