Can't publish web site in Frontpage anymore

I use Frontpage to maintain our company's web site. I design in Frontpage,
and when satisfied with the results I have used "publish web site" (not sure
of the English translation since I use a Swedish version) to do just that.

Recently Frontpage can't find any ftp addresses. I suspect Windows Service
Pack 2 - SP2 - but I am not sure about this. I can use WS_FTP to upload, so
it is not a connection problem.

When I select archive > publish web site the two-pane window shows up, but
all selections are garyed out ecept Cancel. After some minutes the try times
out.

Anybody seen this and also have a solution for it.

Call or E-mail the hosting company. Ask them to reinstall
the Front Page Extensions or repair them. That is what it
sounds like to me. When you said it works with ftp that
probably messed up the Front Page Extensions.

After the host fixes the extensions, don't upload via WS-Ftp or any other FTP, or it will break you extensions again (if that is what the problem was/is)

| OK, thanks.

| I will try this.

I am not sure it is the server extensions now. I am back to my original
assumption.

I tried to upload the web site from another computer within the same LAN
that is also equipeed with FP, and that works. The difference is that this
computer runs Windows 98 and the one that doesn't want to work is using XP
SP2.

As far as I can determine the problem started around the time of the Service
Pack 2 installation.

What do you think?

If it's not the server, then it *might* be a security issue i.e. firewall
blocking port 80 (http:) or blocking frontpage from using port 80 - try putting
the frontpage application in your approved applications accessing the internet,
and port 80 in the allowed ports.

Thomas,
Take a look at www.contentseed.com this will save all publishing problems
and system compatibility issues, while giving the added benefit of allowing
the site to be edited from any computer with an internet connection.

Everyone's life will be easier. ;-)

I suspected the firewall that was installed with SP2 and turned it off, and
that cured it.

Funnily FP was on the approved list, and the firewall never warned me that
it was blocking FP.

Thanks to all who took the time to answer.

The SP2 firewall may require passive mode FTP. This is easily set in FTP
clients, but is not available in FP2002 and earlier versions. In FP2003, in
Remote site view, (or use File->Publish Web) on the remote Web Site
Properties->Publishing tab check the "Use passive FTP" box.
