Can't publish from one pc to another

I want to publish all of the FP 2002 webs on an old pc to a new one with
FP 2002 (intranet). When I try to publish to the new machine, a logon
request occurs which I cannot fulfill. The user name and password for
the admin acct on two machines is the same, however the logon is never
accepted. There is just a workgroup here, but adding that to the login
does not help.

I figured the issue was with FPSE 2002 user accts. I see that the main
admin acct is present there, with admin rights, but is listed followed
by the new machine name. It won't take another entry with the same user
name. What do I need to do to make this work?

You need to create a user account on the new machine for the old machine to
use to connect with.

The same acct already exists on both machines, with the same pswd. Does
it have to be an acct with a different name etc? I've not seen that sort
of behavior with networking stuff in general; if I have an acct = Vick
pswd = whatever on both, I can log on to either machine from the other.

It need to be a different name, as you can't have the same user logged in
twice on the same machine.

Hi Kiln,

When FP does a publish it does not use the normal admin but to IUSR_ is IIS installed correctly on the new machine? Can you edit a
web on the new machine with FP? If so then you should be able to publish to it.
Hi

Yes, on both machines FP 2002 will publish to their own webroot areas
and create webs. It's just the cross-machine publishing that fails.

Wow this sounds pretty awkward. It sounds like a lot of work as I'll
have to create a new user and reinstall Office etc on (I guess) the old
machine to make the transfer. I wonder why networking in general does
not have the same conflict that you mention (can't log in more than once
using the same user name). With the LAN, the one user acct on both
machines has always allowed access from both points at the same time.

The question is, "Can you open the web from a different machine using FP?"
No, I'm not able to log into a web on New with FPage on Old. The same
login dialog appears, and none of the logins work.

You should not have to re-install Office if was installed under a Admin
account.

This is so strange. I made a new admin user on Old, and added an admin
acct like that on New. From Old, I can explore the disk fully (win
explorer). But the same failing user name pswd dialog prevents
publication of webs on Old to New. Amazing that it's this difficult.

Have you add the user to the web site under IIS MMC or FP Extensions Admin.?

Well... no, and the new user is not listed, but when I try to add it,
I'm told it already exists.

I know you are trying and I really appreciate it. But Microsoft seems to
have done it again - the simple has become obfuscated in the name of
progress or some other corporate siren song.

You might want to post to the appropriate Windows XP newsgroup or contact MS
Support for help with this.
