Can't print from tray2

I have a HP LaserJet 5P, it connected To Windows XP-Pro using lpt1 with a
1284 cable, and it is shared as well. Also using Word 2000 Pro
The printer is setup to print to the first available tray. This test is done
on Karen’s workstation and that is the station the printer is connected to
lpt1. With windows test printer test page , I let paper in the top tray and
it prints ok, I remove the paper from the top tray and print a test page and
it selects the bottom tray, and that is what it should do. I can also open
Word document on Karen’s workstation and it prints correctly to both trays,
just like the windows test printer page.

My problem is when I print to from Lorie’s workstation using XP-Pro and
using the shared printer everything works from the Windows test printer page,
both upper and lower tray print correctly. When I open a Word document and
have paper in the top tray is works ok, but when the top try is empty, it
should print from the bottom tray and that is where my problem is. I removed
the HP software, and reinstalled it on both Karnes’s and Lorie’s workstation
with no help.
"NOTE"I was able to print to the priter from another workstation to tray 2
without a prolem, so the problem lies in Lorie's machine.
The station panel on the HPLaserJet 5P, shows a red led on tray1

Any help would be appricated.

Do both PCs have the same setting at tools > options > print > default tray?
