I have a problem concerning programs that I have removed from my system
attempting to start. One is "ppmemcheck.exe" from PestPatrol and another is
"point32.exe" from MS Intellipoint. These are not the only ones, but the
ones I have encountered the most.
I have completely removed the programs from my system. I have searched my
hard drives and the registry for them. I have searched Autoexec.bat,
Config.sys, Win.ini, and System.ini. I have run a complete virus check.
These programs appear in msconfig in Startup. If I uncheck them, the check
reappears; sometimes before I reboot. I am running WinPatrol and have told
it to disable them, but this does not stop them from trying to run.
WinPatrol will catch them attempting to start and ask me what to do. If I
choose "No", WinPatrol will keep asking until I choose "Yes". But the
programs are not running because the executables can't be found.
Any ideas how to stop this behavior?
I am running an up-to-date version of XP Pro SP1 and an up-to-date version
of AVG Pro.
TIA
