My Computer refuses to power off, using the screen procedure, I have to use
the power button.
I installed the ATI All In Wonder 9800 Pro Graphics board, and a 350 watt
power supply and ever since, problem shutting off.
I have an HP Pavillion 762, 768 mb ram, Pent 4 at 2.24GHZ, 2 HDs, a SB
Audigy Card, DVD-RW Drive and CD-RW Drive, a Floppy, and an HP Photosmart
printer with Card readers.
I have installed all updates and SP2 from CD. I have Nortons System works
installed with ALL updates.
Anty ideas would be great, thanks.

Hi,

On older computers that don't have ACPI (power management stuff) I have
noticed that they do not enable APM (older power management standard) by
default and there for ask you to switch off the computer yourself. To
resolve this go to Control Panel -> Power Options -> Advanced (I think,
working from memory here) and check the box that is called something like
Enable Advanced Power Management click ok and try shutting down. To be
honest your computer sounds too new for this solution, I thought this would
only apply to pentium 3 motherboards and older, ah well worth a try.

Hope that helps,

John

Thanks John,
You are right, anything is worth a try. I'll give it a shot this P.M. and
see what happens.
