Can't play back Movie Maker CD

Once still pictures have been save, and slideshow completed using Movie Maker
and burned on a recordable CD, can the video be played on DVD player on TV,
or on another computer that does not have Windows Media Player? Is it unlike
HP Image Zone where you can record your slideshow on a recordable CD and play
back in you DVD player or computer?

I don't know HP Image Zone... Movie Maker can burn a movie to a CD disc but
the file is a WMV one and the menu structure is HighMAT.

There are DVD players that can read a HighMAT menu structure but none can
play the WMV files on the disc.... so for now you need to take a saved movie
from Movie Maker and make/burn standard discs using other software.

I wasn't aware until today that Movie Maker saves in HighMAT. I have 3 DVD
players and none can play back HighMAT. I've spent a very long time
preparing a slideshow of family pictures and now I can't save them to CD and
play them back unless I (and all my family) buys new DVD players. Is there
any way that I can save these pictures in a regular CD or DVD format? Can I
pull the file into a different movie or slideshow program and save it to
CD/DVD? Please help....I'm hoping all my work wasn't for nothing. Thanks.

Save your movie in MM as a dv-avi
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/Tutorials/MovieMaker/HowToSaveDV-AVI.htm
You should have something like nero/roxio which came with your burner, and
in that app look for the option to burn a vcd or svcd.
Import the dv-avi file and follow the wizard for making the vcd/svcd.
If you don't have one of those???
Download vcdeasy - a link here
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/WebPages/UsefulProgrammes.htm

Also be aware that not all dvd players will play vcd's or svcd's, and while
we are at it, not all play home burnt dvds either :(
Check out the dvd players at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

Hi Darcy,

My books are about using the normal features of Movie Maker... my website is
the place for problem-solving.

Saving a movie on a CD from Movie Maker gets it to the disc as a WMV file...
and playback is with the Windows Media Player... can you save the same movie
project to your hard drive at something like 'best for the computer' quality
and play it back OK from there? If so it's something to do with your CD
drive. If not, it's likely a video driver or active-x issue.

Not knowing how you get into this newsgroup... or how you answer a post but
can't create one!!! there's a link to the newsgroup on the main page of my
website... maybe it'll be different and better. I use Outlook Express.

..... thanks for the Cheers!!!! Good luck with your issue

You say you saved the movie successfully and THEN editied it?
Have you tried and successfully played the movie from your HDD in Media
Player?
If all you are trying to do is copy the WMV or AVI file to a disc so your
friends can view it on their computer with a Media Player then the easiest
way, once you have a working movie on your HDD, is to use Windows Explorer
to simply drag and drop the video to the CD burning drive and then click
"Write these files to CD"

Outlook on it's own isn't a newsgroup application. It can be made to work
but all it really does then is to open Outlook Express. Much easier to
simply use Express to begin with.
From Express click Tools -> Newsgroups and select the groups you wish to be
subscribed to or read.

Wojo Thanks.
Yes I have saved movie ok to HD. Did not re-edit afterwards. As advised by
Papa John I did use the "Write these files to CD" facility. All proceeded, as
before, and apparently (told by MM), all OK movie saved to CD. As\before,
when I try to play movie in Media Player my first screen becomes
Green...movie there ok but not distinguishable.Everything is coloured as with
the music effects??? Be Grateful for any advise as to how I can overcome this.

Thanks for guidance on Outlook..Will give it a try

Thanks a lot......Darcy

I am still wondering if it played properly in Media Player from your hard
drive not the CD?
Also check out your video card manufacturers website for updated drivers as
this sometimes is the problem.
The next thing we can look at is video codecs.
Download the XP Codec Pack from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/

Wojo,
Thanks VERY MUCH for advice.
None of recorded CD' of my movie will play correctly in Media Player but it
will play in MM. AllMP does is give me a most sickly green colour followed by
my movie in the form of lurid, ghostly shapes.
Will try downloading the XP Codec Pack.If I come back after having done so
would you please advise further?

Thanks a lot ...........Darcy

Of course I will try to help more.
What I am trying to get from you is this:
You save your movie to your harddrive.
Try to play it FROM your harddrive. I know it doesn't work from the CD but I
need to know if the video that is still on the harddrive plays correctly or
not.

Wojo,
Many thanks for help you are giving me.
I have saved movie successful, to hard drive. The movie will play in MM
from Hard Drive Copy, but not, correctly, in Media Player.

Wojo

ok so the colors show up when you play the movie file in media player which
definitely brings us back to either a video driver issue or a codec issue.
Did you have any luck downloading/installing the XP codec pack?
How about your video card manufacturers website?
Check out "Codec Issues" in the Movie Maker -> Troubleshooting section of my
website.

Ok Darcy, let us know.
Also do check out the "Codec Issues" page of my site as I said and follow
the instruction there to try to see if you have a bad codec or not.
