Cant play audio CD

My parents sent my son a CD they recorded of my mom reading him a book, I
cant get it to play ! I tried the DVD player, CD player and then now the
computer player. The file type states its a DVF file??? I can't find any info
on this file type, the message I get when trying to play it is that it can't
support file type or the codec used to make the CD. Does anyone know how or
if this can be remedied without them having to burn a new one and mailing it?
Is there something they should fix when recording the next one to keep it
from being that type of file? Thanks!!Ang

Well, that file type is apparently from a Sony digital voice recorder.
Usually, the person who takes it off the recorder uses the software that
comes with the recorder to convert it to another format, such as .wav or
..mp3.
http://www.execommsys.com/Sony FS-85USB.htm

" Sony File Formats
1. DVF file (Digital Voice File/file extension: *.dvf)
The DVF file is a sound file format used in recording messages on the Sony
IC recorder equipped with a USB port. The sound data is compressed so that
the size of the data is relatively small. You can edit and play back the
DVF files on the Digital Voice Editor, add them to the IC recorder and play
them back on the IC recorder. On the Digital Voice Editor, a DVF file can be
converted into an ICS(SP), MSV(SP), WAV(16kHz, 8/16bit) file for the SP
mode, or into an MSV(LP), WAV(8kHz, 8/16bit) file for the LP mode."

In future, they should convert the file before burning it, to CD and they
probably just didn't realize that this would be necessary; often it is not
really obvious or well laid out. In the meantime, if you find out the
model of recorder, you might be able to download the software for it or a
similar model from the Sony support site and convert the file you now have.

Thank You so much I really appreciate your advice. My dad already put his
copy of the software in the mail in hopes I would be able to download the
program. We will see! But if for some reason that doesn't work I will
definetly try your suggestions. Thank You again! Ang
