can't ping non-domained laptop

hey. at work, we have a laptop that is not domained. ipconfig /release and
ipconfig /renew works flawlessly. tcp/ip and dns are all fine.
un/reinstalled the adaptor. i can ping out to other boxes. this is a
non-firewalled, wxp sp2 home edition hp laptop. every other box on the
network, domained or not, is pingable.

any ideas?

(btw, ping is not my goal. it was what i discovered while troubleshooting
why the laptop isn't being recognized by our inventory software.)

Check DNS records related to this laptop. Sounds like it's not registered.
