Can't ping... Can't browse workgroup...?

Howdy,

I have my notebook system on our (all) Win 2K Pro network.
We have six systems on a cat5 peer to peer net piped through
a switch.

For some reason, I could not browse to the notebook from my
desktop system. When I tried, I got an error telling me that
I did not have rights to access the files on the notebook. I
checked to see if I was still a User on the notebook, and,
as it should be, I was entered properly. But, consistently,
I could not access files (on the notebook) over the network.

Eventually, I tried IPCONFIG /release then renew, but that
did not help.

I then rebooted the notebook, but no luck.

I then removed its TCP/IP, rebooted, and added TCP/IP back,
and re-booted again.

Still no luck.

Also, now, when I am on the notebook and attempt to browse
other systems in the workgroup (which is called OFFICE) I
get the message:

"Office is not accessible. The list of servers for this
workgroup is not currently available."

Running IPCONFIG on the notebook shows that it is assigned
an IP address properly, but right now, I can ping my desktop
from the notebook, but cannot ping the notebook from the
desktop.

I would appreciate any help on this hassle,

Hello again,

One other thing just occurred to me that might be worth
including:

I use this notebook at two different (physical) locations on
our network:

The problems described above presented themselves at our
office with the notebook connected with Cat5.

At my home, I connect the notebook to the same network with
a wireless PCMCIA card. That was working fine yesterday. I
then shut the system down, removed the wireless NIC, carried
the system to the office, plugged in the Cat5, rebooted, and
have had problems ever since as described above.

Thanks again,

Hello again,

It turned out to be a problem with a software firewall...
All is well now.

Thanks,
