used to be I could partition and format un-used HDD space in xp's
computer management. Now the only option available is "properties" and
"help". "new partition" is grayed.

How can I fix this?

Tks,

Is there any unpartitioned space available? Most people have none.

Yes there is unpartitioned space. It is on my system HDD. Partition C is
system, partition D is for my personal files. 6x.x meg remains
nu-partitioned. Right click on nu-partitioned space and "new partition"
is grayed. I m not new to this. I have often left part of HDD
nu-partitioned during install and partitioned it later.

That space at the end of the disk is reserve red in order to allow Windows
to convert basic disks into dynamic disks.

I hav formatted and installed xp on this machine with this HDD several
times. I have never before had 1/2 the HDD space "reserved", and
therefore unavailable to me.

This would mean your disk size is 12 mB? Up to 8 mB may be reserved for this
process.

status of this space?
