Can't Open Sample Access Project

Running XP Pro SP1
MS Office Pro 2003

New to using Access, tired to begin exploring the samples but...

Tried to open sample data bases

Northwind.mdb opens ok,

NortwindCS.adp (project) fails to open, and generates a macro security
warning message. After the security message the following dialog appears.

Microsoft Access could not find either Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop
Engine, or Microsoft SQL Server Installed on your computer. Click OK to
display the Data Link Properties dialog box and log on to a remote server.

If you want to install SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine on this computer
first, click Cancel, install it from the MSDE2000 folder on the Office
CD-ROM, and then reopen this Access project.

I have installed the file MSDE2000 from the Office Pro 2003 CD, and
confirmed that is is on the C: Drive but the sample project file still fails
to open…

Need some assistance here…

Access Project (*.adp/*.ade file) is merely a front end application that
connects to back-end SQL Server/MSDE. Without SQL Server/MSDE available, you
cannot run Access project sample. Access or MS Office Pro comes with MSDE on
the CD. However, installing SQL Server/MSDE needs some basic knowledge on
SQL Server/MSDE, it is not easy task.

Right you are...

I found an SQL SP3 readme file in the folder and it was 54 pages long.
Bottom line, I was able to use the C: prompt to create a "hard secure"
password and the Server completed the install and I was able to open the
file, only to discover that it is essentially the same adn the Northwind.mdb
file, but located on a desktop server. Haven't a clue how to use all that
power, but pleased I was able to follow the complicated string to get the
project file opened.

It would have helped to have a better, and brief explanation of what the
"Server" does and why, for many, it wasn't necessary to travel the maze if I
only wanted to learn to use the Access database system.

Thanks for the help,
Cheers
