Can't open Programs after SP2

All my programs open then close right away, I can't get into my email, web
browsers don't load, nothing. I tried going to the help and support thing in
the start
menu, and that won't even load so I can't go and use system restore. Sure
hope
you have an idea on what to do here, because this sucks. Oh, also tried
booting into safe mode, and got the same results. Anyone know what might
be wrong or how to fix this??

Probably a virus hijacked the file associations, and cleaning it has
left them damaged. Go to
http://www.dougknox.com and in the XP Fixes, look lower left for 'File
Association fixes'

You will probably have to download those scripts on another machine, and
take them over on a floppy (or CD) to run from that on the affected one.
Boot it to Safe Mode for the purpose
