cant open pdf in outlook 2002

Dawn

I got a new computer here at work and have been having problems since. They
installed the old office XP software, then installed the old Adobe Standard 8
full version. My outlook now only gives the option to SAVE AS on pdf
attachments, I cant double click and open them like I used to, this is a huge
annoyance.

The adobe was having issues of its own, not combing my .doc files into a
single pdf, which I used to have no problem with, spent 6 hours on the phone
with adobe who 1.) would not let me speak to a person I could understand 2.)
hung up on me 4 times and 3.) had no idea what i was talking about! I got
tech help from an outsource who couldnt figure it out either so he downloaded
the trial version of Adobe 9 PRO and the combing .doc files works now, but
still only have save as option in outlook...

Im also having a problem with word, randomly it pops open (like when I close
outlook or another window of word) saying "Normal.dot has changed would you
like to save" It doesnt allow me to save it, I open task manager processes
and close all the "WINWORD" and it goes away from the time being.

I have searched both these problems online and cannot find an answer (Ill
post the word one in the word forum). I found a couple of things and tried
them and it hasnt worked - deleting outlooksecuretemp files, deleting the
normal.dot... not fixing me.. :(

Any ideas?

The 'do you want to save normal.dot' is caused by the acrobat addin- see
http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2006/20060221.htm

The option to save as is controlled by the security settings outlook or IE.
Is there a policy in effect to force save as? This isnt a typical setting
for PDF's.

There is no policy in force (unless its on the server? We dont have an
exchange server, but maybe the guy set my setting wrong or differently from
the old computer?), and I downloaded that program to allow you to see the
level 1 and level 2, there is nothing in level 2 (which would only allow save
as option). I dont understand whats going on here..
