PDF Unable to open Japanese PDF

Eric

We regularly get PDF Files from Japan. Recently we are unable to open them
on some of our Outlook Clients. Adobe generates a message

"Adobe Reader could not open (pdf name) because it is either not a
supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was
sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)

Only some of our clients get this message. Variables: Outlook 2007 or
Outlook 2003 and Adobe 9. Windows XP or Vista. If you try to save the file,
a 0K file is created. The files have Kanji characters in the file name. You
can open it however in Outlook Web access under the same users email account.

I am stumped and have searched for solutions. Any ideas anyone

That is an angle I had not considered. I disabled my AV (Symantec Endpoint
Protection) and still got the same error though.

It was worth a shot ;-)

Let's take a different approach here then;
Does the PDF-file still indicate the correct size when looking at the
attachment size indicator in Outlook?
What happens if the same PDF-file is being send but then with non Kanji
characters in the filename?
What happens when you receive a Word document or another attachment that has
Kanji characters in the filename?

Actually your shot was right on target. I retested based on your question of
Word. I could not open that either which indicated it was not an Adobe
issue. I had disabled autoprotect before and it did not work. I
un-installed Symantec and now it works. I will contact Symantec and find out
how to fix this. Evidently some of my users do not have the plug in
installed is why they work. Another issue to address with Symantec.

Thanks for your help on this.
