Can't open Internet Explorer

Whenever we click on IE icon, IE pops up then promptly closes. Only way to
browse the net is to open explorer (or my computer, or Outlook) and type the
url. When that opens, IE is open and runnimg, but then we can't open a
second IE browser.

WindowsXP Pro, PIV, 256Mb, all patches applied (today)
