cant open explorer and folders, cant install on computer - explorer closes

My computer has Windows XP on it. It currecntly wont allow me to
open
any folders or install anything on it. I dont have a recovery disk
since my work installed the sw on it and i do not work there any more
to have them re-install.

Is there anything i can do? I've searched these forums and most
posts
say to install items. Since i can not do so, I'm looking for an
alternative. I've tried booting from a cd and that doesnt seem to do
anything.


Any input is greatly appreciated.

Buy an original install XP CD.
