Hi All,

When I try to open the Device Manager, I reveive the following error message:

"MMC cannot open the file c:\winnt\system32\devmgmt.msc. This may be because
the file is not MMC console, or was created by a later version MMC, or you do
not have the permissions ..."

Can anyone help please?

Hello,

Thanks for your post and greatly appreciate for the other helpful
information here.

I understand that when trying to open the device manager, you get the
following error message:
"MMC cannot open the file c:\winnt\system32\devmgmt.msc. This may be
because the file is not MMC console, or was created by a later version MMC,
or you do not have the permissions ..."

Based on my research, there are two possibilities:
Cause 1: No admin right is granted.
Under this circumstance, you can create a new account with admin right and
check the issue.

Cause 2: MSXML3.dll no longer registered properly with the Dynamic Link
Library
In this situation, reregisterd MSXML3.dll with the Dynamic Link Library
should resolve the issues.

Please perform the following steps to troubleshoot this issue:

1. Click the Start and then click Run

2. In the Open box, type "Regsvr32 Msxml3.dll" (without the quotation
marks), and then click OK

3. On the message confirming that the registration is successful, click OK

If the issue persists, just as lvee's suggestion, please follow the KB
326574 and contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.
HTH! If anything is unclear, please feel free to contact me. I am glad to
be of assistance.

Thanks & Regards
