can't open attachments

Hi - I'm new - in outlook express, we receive email
sometimes with attachments. However, when we click on
the paperclip icon, the attachment appears but it appears
as sort of "greyed out". And then we double click on the
attachment and nothing happens. Any advice on how to
open attachments in outlook express? thanks! Bruce

Recently, MS has been "patching" their mail program software to prevent
users from opening attachments which may potentially (but probably not)
contain a virus. I'm not saying this is the problem you are having but it
is fairly likely that this is what happening. There is probably a
workaround, perhaps by fiddling with registry settings.

hit forward, then save the attachment

It's a new security feature to prevent accidental opening of viruses, either
by yourself or scripting. you can disable it in tools | options | security,
but I think the extra effort to hit forward is safer and well worth the
extra click.
