Hi all,please help i need these attachments open for new job!
I have recieved emails with attachments in the past and been able to open
with no problem now i get a message stating "your current security settings
do not allow these attachments or files to be downloaded", i have tried the
email help-tools-etc but this still does not work, i have been in touch with
the norton people to see if it was their programme but it is not,so i think
it must be windows, i am now at a dead end, please can anyone help?

Go to Tools, Options, Security, uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."

Also, Norton antivirus may or may not be contributing to your
current issue but it will cause problems eventually.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

working fine up to a couple of weeks ago i had no problems at all. Is it
vista that causes this to happen? sorry if i am a bit slow i'm new to all of

Norton is best viewed as a ticking time bomb. It may be working fine now,
it may have been working fine for a long time, but the odds are that it WILL
blow up on you. Norton is more invasive than the spam and viruses it was
created to protect against. It has nothing to do with Vista and everything
to do with the invasive nature of Norton. Other AV suites like Avast and
AVG are much better behaved and nowhere near as invasive. Mind you, even
these packages should be installed WITHOUT their email scanning options.
Email scanning is area in which ALL AV packages present problems, besides
which, email scanning is unnecessary; the resident portion of the AV package
is all you really need because anything you do with an email is going to
cause it to be dealt with by the operation system where the resident part of
the AV package lives.

On your Windows Mail, when you go to Tools, Options, Security,
what does it say by the second square checkbox?

I have Home Premium and I don't have the referenced checkbox either. The
sections and checkboxes from the top of the page are:
Encrypted Email
* Encrypt contents and attachments...
* Add digital signature...
* Send clear text signed message...
* Request S/MIME...
Then comes security zones....
