Can't open attachments in OL2003

For no apparent reason, my OLK 2003 will no longer open attachments. I get
an popup window saying the file is either missing or i don't have
permission... etc. I've looked thru all the post I can read and I've
checked the temp folders by running from cmd %temp% . I understand the
OLK temp folder is under C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK**** (whatever). I've tried the
suggested editing of the registry by replacing the temporary path to just the
temp folder under Local Settings, but after I do that, reopen OutLook and try
to open an attachment, the registry reverts back to OKL--- folder being under
the Temporary Internet Files folder. I've tried changing my user name,
thinking maybe OLK would rewrite something but that doesn't work either. I
don't think I've auto updated anything recently ...

Does anyone have any other ideas?????? I really NEED to be able to open
attachments because I get files to use in my business in this manner.

Any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These are just guesses on my part, but you can try to first create a new
profile from scratch (delete the old one after you have the new one running),
and if that doesn't work, try running Detect and Repair from the Help menu
(have your installation CD handy).

I do have the installation CD ... however, and i think this may be related,
when i do the Detect and Repair, it fails, giving error message
" Error 2203. An internal error has occurred.
(C:windows\installer\8bb6b9.ipi -2147287008 )"

When you say "build a new profile", do you mean a new OutLook email Profile?
How would I do that? Or do you mean a new "user" profile in Windows?

Thanks for the help.

Well, it's not good that you're getting that error when you run the detect
and repair, but that I'm not sure I can help you with. However, to try
creating a new Outlook mail profile, go to Control Panel | Mail | Show
Profiles.

Well, creating an new OutLook profile doesn't work either. Something
certainly has gotten hosed. I wonder if it could have been an "auto update".
I don't know what else to do...at my rope's end. Do you know if it's
possible to manually edit the registry to delete all references to MS Office
Profession so that I can reaload just MS Office? I can't even uninstall it
from control pannel....i get the same error message that Uninstaller failed.

Thanks again.

At this point you might want to repost in an Office newsgroup -- the gurus
over there can better help you figure out how to fix the uninstaller problem.
Let me know if you have trouble finding an Office group (Office General
Questions, a.k.a. microsoft.public.office.misc, would be your best bet).
Good luck.
