can't make win98 disk visible in xp

I've got a hard drive with Win98SE on it that I need to access with my XP
Pro computer. However, I cannot make it show up in My Computer, although it
does appear in Disk Management. I've tried installing it as master, slave,
and as an external hard drive connected via a USB enclosure. But XP will
not assign it a drive letter, and I cannot figure out how else to access it.

Thank you,

jm

- Click Start / Run / diskmgmt.msc {OK}
- Right-click the problem partition.
- Add a drive letter.

I do not have that option upon Right Click. I only have "Delete Partition"
and "Help."

There may be something wrong with the partition, or perhaps
you compressed it. Can you see its files and folders when you
boot the machine with a Win98 boot disk (www.bootdisk.com)?
