The menu item File>New>Compressed (Zipped)Folder
has gone missing from my WinXP Pro with SP1 and more
recent updates. It's also missing from the context menus
where it used to live.

Any ideas why?

Hi

Try this:

From Start>Run type the following:

regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Thanks for the suggestion, Will; I'd like to know more
about regsvr32, it keeps cropping from time to time; how
do I find out more?

However this time it didn't work. However maybe it will be
OK after re-start? I can't re-start now because it's on a
server with some clients attached.

You don't need to reboot. But you may need to press F5 to let explorer know to remake the menu.

You can refresh the shell

Ctrl + Alt + Shift and Close or Cancel in the Shutdown dialog
Closes down Window's shell. Use Task Manager's File - Run dialog to start Explorer to restart the shell.
