Can't make Microsoft Networking work....

I have a Dell XP Pro machine connected to the D-Link DI-624 wireless router.
I use a dial-up connection to the Internet on the Dell with Internet
Connection Sharing (that all works: I can connect to the Internet through
the wireless network). I also have a Toshiba Laptop with Windows XP Pro
(belongs to a Domain at work) with the D-Link DWL-G650 wireless notebook
adapter. AND I have a Micron Windows 98 machine wired to the DI-624 (it can
connect to the Internet as well).

I used the Network Connection Wizard and setup the network on the Micron
with the floppy it created.

What I can't seem to get working is Microsoft Networking: I can't see the
laptop from either the Dell or the Micron or the Dell from the laptop or the
Micron. I can see the Micron from the Dell, though.

Ideas? Help? FAQs? Pointers? Lost Cause?

I tried changing the laptop from belonging to a Domain to belonging to a
WorkGroup, but that did not work AND I was no longer my domain identity (for
the MyDocuments, MyEtc. folders).

The DI-624 IS the wireless router...... It is configured to be more of an
access point than a router.....

This is the result of chaining multiple routers. You should either remove
the DI-624 and use only the wireless router, or reconfigure the wireless
router to function as a Wireless Access Point. See

Sorry. I misread. Is DHCP turned off in the DI-624?

Yes, DHCP is turned off.

I CAN get to the Internet, just can't see the computers in the local
workgroup....

Thanks,

Your problems are usually caused by a misconfigured firewall. Only run
one firewall at a time. "Internet Worm Protection" included in some
antivirus software like Norton 2005/06 is a firewall and counts. If you
are running third-party firewalls, be sure to disable the XPSP2 Windows
Firewall and configure the third-party firewall to allow the lan
traffic as trusted.

Here is a network troubleshooter by MVP Hans-Georg Michna. Take the time
to go through it carefully and it will usually pinpoint the problem
area(s). http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm
