Can I do this?

Hello,

After researching many sources, I realize that I lack the final piece of
information to complete my goal.

I have a Dell XPS wired directly to a D-Link G Wireless Router which brings
in satellite internet. I have a Micron 98SE in the same room that I'd like
to network with the Dell as well as access the internet. My first choice is
to have both computers WIRED (as opposed to wireless) to the router and each
other. I am new to routers. Can I set up the local 2 machine network
through the router? I'm looking for a solution that would be accessible all
the time without any switches. What am I missing in information?

Thank you for any thoughts,
Ellen

As long as the router is supported by your satellite company, you're good to
go. I have no idea what information you are missing.

Plug an ethernet cable into your Win98's ethernet card (assuming it has one)
and set up your local area network. If your Win98 box doesn't have an
ethernet card installed, you'll need to buy one and put it in. They are
very inexpensive. Here are some links to help you network your two
computers.

"Don't Panic"

The internet is up and running successfully. The part that was missing for
me was that I thought that the two computers had to be directly connected
with a cable joining their two network cards, and where it is now, the cards
are directly connected to the router instead. I had to assume that the
local network could be created through the router, but didn't know for sure.

Thanks for your reply and the links.
And my regards to The Empress of the World!
