hello,

i recently setup a new wireless network behind a dlink DI-624 with two
wired computers and a wireless laptop. the laptop and one of the wired
computers can see eachother fine, they both run xp. the other wired
computer runs windows 2000 and i haven't been able to add it to the
network. i have shared all the drives on the windows 2000 machine. i
use the network wizard in xp and it asks to use a usb drive (plug into
one computer and then plug into the win 2000 machine) which hasn't
worked. the internet connection works fine. the windows 2000 machine
can print fine to the other wired computer (using xp).

also, the laptop runs xp home edition, the wired xp machine runs xp
professional.

another question off subject, when i setup a wireless network and share
these drives does this mean that my neighbor with a wireless adapter
can view my files or is this a question for d link?

thanks in advance

I think that you're referring to the Wireless Network Setup Wizard.
There's also a regular Network Setup Wizard, which can't write a USB
drive and can't run on Windows 2000.

Configure the Windows 2000 network settings manually. It isn't
strictly necessary, but assigning the same workgroup name to all
computers makes it easier to find other computers on the network.

Try accessing the Windows 2000 computer from the other computers by
typing its computer name in the Start | Run box in this format:

\\computer

Make sure that a firewall program on Windows 2000 isn't blocking
access by the other computers.
also, the laptop runs xp home edition, the wired xp machine runs xp
professional.

All versions of Windows can network with each other.

Anyone who can connect to your wireless network can potentially view
your files. To keep your neighbor (and everyone else) from
connecting, enable the strongest type of encryption that your wireless
networking equipment supports. From weakest to strongest, that's WEP
-> WPA -> WPA2.
thanks in advance

You're welcome.

Just wanted to thank you, all I had to do was add the computer to the
workgroup i already created and now it works fine. now i have to set
up all the users on each computer and make sure my neighbors aren't
able to get in. later, dza
