Can't make internet connection

Anyone who can telll me how to get the Internet Connection Wizard to allow
me connect using a dail-up modem? After re-installing Windows professional
XP I can't get my modem to shake hands with the internet explorer. When I
try to use the internet connection wizard, after I click the "connect to the
internet manually" selection, the next screen only will allow me to select
the third choice (connect using a broadband connection that is always on).
The options "connect using a dial-up modem" and "connect using a broadband
connection that requires a password" are displayed in a light gray
background and I am unable to click either selection. Thanks.
