Can't logon to Windows XP after using McAfee Registry Power Cleane

I installed McAfee Registry Power Cleaner, ran it without problem. I used
the defrag option in the same program and it rebooted my computer. Now it
just goes to the blue "welcome" screen and when I click on my name to login,
it seems to start to login but then logs itself right back off to the blue
welcome screen.

I'm a novice...I can do some things, but this has me stumped.

NEVER use registry cleaners. The consensus here is that they never do any
good and they frequently do harm, as you just found out.

You may be able to restore the boot by using this proceedure:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

If you can get back to a desktop, restore the backup copy of your registry
that Power Cleaner made before it ran; if it made one. You'll be lucky if it
actually did make a backup. If not, Use Windows System Restore.
