Phil

Hi all.

I have a network, with Small Business Server and all the
client machines have Windows 2000 Professional.

Before yesterday, I've had another client machine to the
network - I don't know if this is related with my problem
or not -.

Yesterday, one user can't log on any computer.
On his computer after the login, appears this message (
the message appears in Portuguese, so I can't assure that
it is correctly translated to English ):
-------------------------------------------------------
Log in Message

The system can't start your session because the domain
MYDOMAIN is not available.
-------------------------------------------------------

Any help is very appreciated.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards,
Joaquim.

Log on as the local admin and try to ping the domain controller. Maybe an
IP conflict if it's related to setting up another workstation.

You should at least be able to login as administrator (unless you forgot
the password or changed the administrator name). Change the "logon to" to
be the local computer instead of the domain.

Phil,

Thanks for your reply, but on this machine I can't log in
with any user.
I've noticed that by mistake I've had the same machine
name to the new machine installed before yesterday. I've
changed its name.

I've tryed to log in in Safe Mode, but can't log in either.

Best regards,
Joaquim.

Phil,

Thanks again for your replies.

I've unplugged the network cable.
I've logged in with administrator on "APIMWS11 ( this
machine )", but it tells me ( the message is in
Portuguese, so I'll try to translate it to English ):
-----------------------------------------------------
Log in message

It was not possible to start your session. Verify that the
domain name and the user are correct and, next, write your
password again. .......

Best regards,
Joaquim.

That means either the administrator password is not correct, or the
adminstrator account has been renamed. Are you 100% sure that you have
this correct?

Phil,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the administrator login and password are 100% correct.

Now, I've noticed an interesting thing. If I try several
times to log in, the computer after some time, logs in,
but I can't access any network resources.
I've changed already the netword cable.

Any more suggestions?

Best regards,
Joaquim.

Can you try restarting in safe mode again?

Phil,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the administrator login and password are 100% correct.

The network cable is unplugged, you're starting up in safe mode, you are
100% sure of the local admin name and password.

I'm going to bow out of this one. Maybe someone else can help.

Phil,

Thanks, one more time, for your help.

Unfortunatelly, now, I can't log in. Maybe, it's some
security system.

Any more ideas?

Best regards,
Joaquim.

Good point. Enter the password in the user name text box just to verify
you are typing what you think you're typing.
