I just installed XP pro on a new Pentium4 computer. The install went ok, then after it completes the logi
screen is displayed asking for administrator password. I did not assign one and have no idea what it is
The documentation says the password was given during install but I did not do that. I have an OEM version o
XP. What can I do?

So, if you didn't specify a password, what would the password be? Blank.
Have you tried leaving the password blank to login?

Well, if you didn't specify the password when prompted to do so
during the installation, it should still be blank. Have you tried
that?

Yep. Tried all that. Tried ctrl-alt-del twice and got a login prompt for admin, again
No passwd looks like it takes, but then I get a domain access failure message

While not an expert at Windows, I have had Win98se for several yrs and us
w2k at work

This is not an upgrade - a whole new machine. What happened is I tried to get XP on th
cheap. I figured XP pro OEM version would work, so I bought on online. Apparently there is mor
going on than the home edition

This is a genuine copy, not a bootleg. I would rather not buy another XP version so if I ca
get this to work, that would be good. Thanks.

Domain? Are YOU the administration for your domain? You'll need to talk to
whomever is the domain admin to let them decide if they trust you enough to
give you their password or add your account as a domain administrator.

If you need to manage the host itself separate of the domain, logon locally
and use THAT local Administrator account to login.
