I'm having the same problem. I have started a new account and the same thing.
The error message I've gotten are...

Account: 'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'incoming.verizon.net', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

The connection to the server has failed. Account:
'incoming.yahoo.verizon.net', Server: 'incoming.yahoo.verizon.net', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E

I have tried everything including going to my isp and changing my password
then re-entering it into the account info. Nothing works. If other people are
having this problem, maybe it's a conspiracy. (smile) Any help out there?

I recently added a new email account to windows mail. When I started havinng
problems signing on. I deleted both old and new accounts and added the
information below. Still endured log on problems. The funy yhting is that,
the old mail from the deleted account is still in the windows mail. Can't
delete and cant log on.

Here is the message I keep getting after I called and wasted $59 on tech
support from Windows Mail technicians.

Account: 'pop.bizmail.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.bizmail.yahoo.com',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Now. here are the setting both YAHOO and Windows Mail Tech gave me:

Refer to server as: pop.bizmail.yahoo.com
My name:
Organization: If any
Email: (e-mail address removed)
CHECK include this account
Incoming Mail Server: POP3
Incoming Mail: pop.bizmail.yahoo.com
Outgoig Mail smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com
Email User: (e-mail address removed)
Password: examplevoid
CHECK Remember password
CHECK Log on using secure password
CHECK mail server requires authenication
Outgoing SMTP 465
CHECK Requires secure connection
Incoming mail POP3
CHECK requires a secure connection
CHECK delivery leave a copy on server

If you are sure you are you are entering the correct username and
password, one possible cause for that error is account corruption.
One thing you should try as a quick fix is to delete that corrupted
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Interesting - this has jogged my memory now and this problem appeared after I
had problems with OneCare. I had to uninstal and re-install OneCare to get
that working right after updating it and since then Windows Mail has given
problems. Should I re-install Windows Mail or OneCare or both?

G

Gary VanderMolen

It's not feasible to reinstall Windows Mail without reinstalling all of
Vista. Do a trial uninstall of OneCare to see if it makes a difference.
If no joy, I suggest upgrading to the less buggy Windows Live Mail.

Will try that - Windows Live Mail - I can't find that on the MS web site -
where is it?

The Yahoo tech gave you wrong information.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."
