I cant load SVC PACK 2 for windows Xp. Following advise from mocrosoft, i
have uninstalled my virus checker and attempted to restart in SAFE Mode but
cant get into safe mode. When a suggestion for which operating systems i want
comes up it only gives me WINDOWS XP and SAFE mode is not an option. How do i
get into SAFE mode. Pressing F8 on startup does not work.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried Shift-F8 on startup? Or maybe F2?

Hi Morituri-|-Max!!!
Need to ask u 1 question. Is the windows xp u curently have now juz
installed on ur system?? Well, in my experienced, if u cant get into both
Safe Mode and MS-DOS, it may be leading to monitor display fault. To change
it, reinstall windows xp, then in format menu later on, after first restart,
make a quick format. After fresh install of windows xp, check ur monitor DPI
& Hertz on ur monitor manual or at the back of the monitor. Then input the
correct settings at " Display Properties> Settings 'tab'> Advanced 'button'>
General 'tab'/ Monitor 'tab'." Hope it helps. Byez!!>!!~~

Why are you trying to get into safe mode to install SP2?

Rock,

I was advised by James Shao of microsoft to do this as SP2 would not load
the normal way. It loads ok until it tries to find SP2.cab file then bombs
out and hangs. James suggested I uninstall my virus checker, start in safe
mode (which i still cant) then install SP2 again then reboot and re-install
my virus checker.

I am open to suggestions but I have now got my computer working again
without SP2 and would not want to risk screwing it up again.

Am open to suggestions. Hope you had a good christmas

Ok I understand. Here is one MS Knowledge Base article on installing
service packs in safe mode. In general it's not recommended, but if you
do, and if it installs, then install again after booting into normal mode.

Safe Mode

Here is the standard information I have on installing SP2.
