Can't Install Updates

I have XP configured to download updates automatically. Problem is that
when I try to install, the installation bar moves along for a ways and
then the computer shuts down, midstream, first flashing a blue screen
with white,DOS type writing , but shuts down before I can read the
message. I've tried to install updates manually, rather than
automatically, with the same result. By now I have quite a few updates
which I would like to install, but Windows won't let me. Other than
this, the computer acts normally.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

it may not be windows stopping you from updates, could be
malware or other scumware. after you clean up, run system
tools.
