Can't install the disk to get onto the internet on Windows ME

When I try to install the disk to get onto the internet it gets so far then
stops and I get a message saying 'Network Adapter error' and it also says
'Blue Yonder installer detected software for a Network Adapter, but no
physical Network Adapter associated with it. This can happen if you recently
removed a Network Adapter but did not uninstall the drivers. You can install
the hardware for the adapter or remove the software drivers. To install the
drivers click shut down, to remove the drivers click fix' I have tried doing
this but nothing happens and it won't let me go any further. Please help.
Thank you.
