Can't Install Security Update for Microsoft .Net Framework, Version 2.0
(KB922770). I keep getting the message "The following updates were not
installed" from Automatic Updates.

Do I need this update? I am not developing .Net redistributes but I do
use PowerShell.

Thank you,
Fred Jacobowitz

You must uninstall and reinstall .net 2.0. Be sure to reboot between the
uninstall and reinstall. Don't you love MS software?!

I am having the same trouble with this update. I tried to uninstall .NET
2.0, and I get the following error message:

EventType : visualstudio8setup P1 : 183 P2 : 8.0.50727.42_rtm_x86ret
P3 : msi P4 : rep P5 : f P6 : - P7 : - P8 : 1612 P9
: -
P10 : -

And the report contains:

C:\DOCUME~1\HAROLD~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WLF44.tmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HAROLD~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\SDB45.tmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HAROLD~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\VSW0\VSSWMSISummary.txt
C:\DOCUME~1\HAROLD~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\VSW0\VSSWMSIFailInfo.txt
<NoFiles>

As you might have guessed, none of these files seem to exist.

A little background:

I have an HP Pavilion laptop, with Windows XP Home pre-installed. I also
have Office 2003 Professional, which was not pre-installed.

I had some trouble a few months ago with Office 2003 Pro, and on the advice
of a computer nerd, attempted to uninstall and reinstall it. I made a
mistake in that process, however, and after I had already
uninstalled-reinstalled realized that the CD I had to hand was for Office XP
(from a different computer I own). So I panicked and tried to use System
Restore to "undo" the uninstall, which of course didn't work, but I think it
might have screwed up some other things. I also now have both copies
(Office10 and Office11) on my computer, and despite having run Add/Remove on
the Office XP version, it is still in the folder in Program Files. Since
then I have located the correct CD and reinstalled Office 2003, but there are
a number of programs that I have tried to update or uninstall which give me
similar errors. I have used the Windows Install Clean Up tool on a couple of
these that I knew I could re-install, but it doesn't seem to work all the
time.

Do you think this could be the reason why I can't uninstall the .Net
Framework? What should I do to fix it? And can I download a new version of
it if I do manage to uninstall, or do I need a whole copy of Windows XP?

Thanks for your help.

I had a similiar issue. I used Microsoft Uninstall Utility to remove the .net
2.0 installation from the MS Windows Installer database. I also deleted the
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 directory (I am not sure that
this is necessary). I rebooted. I then ran the dotnetfx.exe 2.0 setup program
and chose the "repair" option. It managed to clean everything up. I then did
a manual update from the MS update page and the two .net 2.0 security updates
installed correctly.

Hope that helps.

cannot uninstall the program. I get "the installation source for this prodoct
is not available. Verify that the source exists and verify that you can
access it." So now what?

At least your system booted. I installed several of the latest fixes last
night, including the .Net 2.0 update and now my system won't boot. Don't
know if it was the .Net or one of the others.. but I can't even get the
system to boot from a CR-ROM.. so I have no idea what happened. I'm using my
laptop now so that I can try and browse for others who may have had problems,
but my system is desktop is seeming dead, despite working fine before I
installed the patches.
