Can't Install Newsreader in Outlook 2003

I can't find the option of "News" in Customize > Commands > Categories > Go.
It was there previously, and I tried to copy it to Toolbar > Go. Instead,
it copied as its own item on Toolbar, so I deleted it from the Toolbar; and
now I can't find the option at all. Any help or advise would be greatly
appreciated.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

I am having the same problem and have contaced MS. So far there response has
not been helpful, but I added your message to my last reply to them to show it
is not an isolated incident.

Thanks!

In Control Panels all that was available was Outlook Express so I selected
that. I also added /outnews to my shortcut but the Outlook would not open.
When I removed it and Outlook did open, NEWS was back on the GO menu.
Thanks!

Mark

Ironically, if I make Oulook my default from with Outlook or its newsreader,
I lose NEWS all over again. If I do not make it the default ... it stays -
so far!

Your default "what" from "where"? Email or newsreader?

Should be:
Outlook: default email reader
Outlook Express: default newsgroup reader

Outlook does not have a newsreader. You are linking Outlook Express to
Outlook to be the newsreader.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Now it makes sense! Thanks,

No, I was premature. The first time I clicked on "News" the Outlook
Newsreader worked. But the second time I tried clicking on "News" I got an
Explorer-My Computer-file manager-type window, where various files are
listed without any access to the Outlook Newsreader. By the way, I could
not place "News" on the "Go" menu. The best I could do was to create a new
menu item next to "Go." Any other suggestions?
