cant install critical updates and service packs

Security Update for Windows XP (815021)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB817606)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB821557)

I can't install these. I have been going nuts, ever since
I installed symantec/norton anti virus, I can't install
updates, I have to diasable internet security for pages
to load in explorer (with cable modem), I have restored,
I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have also been
trying to get a cakewalk mediaworks package to work, went
into registry etc... In my windows update log, manual and
automatick updates are not installing
