Can't install BCM in Ofiice Pro Trial

S

Sergey U.

I have got downloaded MS Office Pro trial files.

The information on Troubleshooting on installing BCM
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/outlook/HP011128601033.aspx#tshoot_configure

mentioned, that there are on the page to download had to be found to
clicakble links, the second one for BCM. But there are was only one link-
"Download now".

I've got two files dowloaded X12-3096.EXE ,that provided me with all Office
Pro applications , incl. Outlook. and the second one X13-11296.EXE, that
seems to be setup program for BCM.

When I try to open Outlook, the first message I am getting every time:

"Business Contact Manager for Outlook : Cannot complete the selected
operation beacuse unknown external error occurred."

After pressing OK, I am informed that "Business Contact Manger is stopping
to work: Windows is looking for solution" and "Business Contact Manager has
stopped working - Windows collecting information"with finally offering me to
sen more info to Microsoft and additionally "Business Contact Manager has
stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working
correctly.Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available". After pressing Close I am returning to Outlook which functions
then more or less OK.

If under the "Help"I try "Configure Business Contact Manager" then I am
getting

"Business Contact Manager cannot complete your last action or actions.
Please try again."

If I exit Outlook and try to run X13-11296.EXE, then after extracting files
I got the message to allow Setup Program for Business Contact Manager 2007 to
continue. Then after that it crashes informing me that Microsoft Office Small
Business Setup Wizard has stopped to work and closes.

It seems that I got in download wrong file for the setup of BCM, not for Pro
version but for Small Business.

Any suggestions please?

There is one version of BCM for an Outlook version, irrespective of
whether Outlook came from Office Pro or Office Small Business. BCM is
only supposed to work with some Office packages (e.g.: not with Office
Home), but if you don't have the right Office, BCM should just go into
Read-Only mode - you cannot add or edit contacts - and not display
random error messages.

Since BCM and its install wizard both crash, it sound like there may
be a problem with .NET on your machine. Try resinstalling .NET.

Thank you for respond.

Just to be sure: I have insatelled .NET 3.5 SP1. So, should I uninstall
this, restart and then download the same from microsoft.com?

Yes, indeed there are BCM only for some of Office suites, and I do wonder
why the second file with BCM, that is a prt of MS Office suite downlaod fro
installtion, shows,as I decsribed, at various stages that is about MS Office
Small Business edition, however I ahve downlaidaed and intalled the MS Office
Pro suite. Even more I wonder if I need to get another installation filefor
BCM from Microsoft how I can get it, since there is no support for trials and
apply for paid support is just to encourage wrong beahviour of MS.

Moreover, I was unable to unistall BCM, as it triggers the same crash of
Setup program, activated on Uninstall command.

Please confirm my correct understanding of .NET reinstall, then I will
proceed.

You could try uninstalling .NET 3.5 and reinstalling it.

If you want to diagnose the actual problem, try getting a Fusion log
of the BCM Setup crash.

Fusion is the name of the .NET linker, and I'd guess that over half of
BCM or BCM Setup crashes are problems linking assemblies.

I tried to reinstall .NET 3.5 SP1, but it did not lead to a success with
installing BCM, the same reactions.

The only diffrence that I was able to unstall residues of BCM form pervious
attempts and no BCM now apperas in the list of installed programs after
failed setup.

What else I can do to fix the issue, please?
