hi people,
i am very frustrated right now.
I have copied the outlook folder from
"documents and setting/loacal settings/username/microsoft/outlook"
to a cd. Then I installed a new hard drive and set up outlook.
Then I replaced the outlook folder with the one I have copied.
Now it does not recognize anthing and give a error message.

Then I reinsatlled outlook again and I did import .pst file.
This time it said: outlook.pst (the one I have copied before) is not a
personal file folder.
However it is just the .pst file folder but outlook gives this stupid
message.
what can i do?

Never ever overwrite a PST file. You have corrupted your profile.
Do not import PST files.

Move the PST file from the CD to any location on your hard drive _other
than_ Outlook's default location. Remove it's read only attribute. Then
create a new profile from scratch and use the instructions in the Help files
to configure Outlook to use the PST file from your old installation.
Or post your Outlook version so we can tell you.

I thought you might be able to help me. I have a new computer and want to
access my old email messages from OE. I copied the old hard drive onto the
new hard drive under a folder "olddata". I then installed OE on the new hard
drive. But I think it wiped out the old address book and messages. I had a
backup of my address book which I used to import into OE (I did llose all my
contact groups, though.) How can I find out if my messages are still there?

1) Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup.
2) See http://www.insideoe.com/

Hi Russ,

I have this same problem, but am not exactly following your instructions.
My confusion is the "create your own profile from scratch" part. How do you
do that?
