can't import messages from Eudora 6.0 (can't open mail folder)

When I try to import mail messages from Eudora 6.0 into
Outlook 2000, I'm getting the message "The mail folder
could not be opened". When I get that message the only
application I'm running is Outlook.

I've seen that Outlook can't import email addresses from
Eudora, but is there some way I can get the messages
copied?

Can Eudora export to a file, and if so, what file types can it export
to?

Although Eudora can import Outlook and Netscape files, it
does not appear to be able to export message files. It
can only save messages one at a time, as text.

But Outlook claims to be able to import Eudora message
files. I have a feeling that it may have to do with where
the files are located, but the Outlook import wizard
doesn't let me browse to point at a particular location.
I tried copying my Eudora files to be in the same
Applications directory as Outlook, but that did not help.

Outlook is probably looking for a Eudora installation on the same
machine, rather than standalone Eudora files.
