How to transfer stuff from Eudora to Windows Mail (or Thunderbird)

Does anyone know how to transfer email messages (and/or) addresses from
Eudora (v.7) to Windows Mail? I'm setting up a new computer with Vista, and
trying to migrate over my "stuff" from an XP computer. I know I can kluge
the addresses by converting the nickname files to CSV format (pain, but
doable, I think). However, I haven't found how to pull over the messages.
Windows mail help (NOT!) says it can easily import messages from other apps,
including Eudora, but when I follow the provided directions to import
messages, no option for Eudora or any "other" program pops up. Big lie.

I've used and loved Eudora for many years, but it's phasing out of
supporting its products and the new v. is only beta. I figured I'd live with
WinMail as it's improved over Outlook products which I don't love.

I've also heard really good things about Thunderbird. I would convert to it
if the transition is easier. Any help and/or recommends??

I prefer Thunderbird over Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail. It will
directly import the Eudora messages and contacts.

Thank you, Dave! Researching back, I also saw your earlier post in response
to a similar question. Since you've used Eudora and prefer Tbird, that's
enough to convince me to try it. I'll report back later on how it went. Thx
again.
