Can't hibernate, all text becomes highlighted, namless files. Fix?

I have a problem with my computer that has recently begun since we got a
network cable and Broadband.
Some whole folders, always the case with the My Pictures folder, appear with
all the files in them with no names, in the thumbnail view and slideshow
view. This is always apparent.
Other issues I have is an error telling me I cannot hibernate when I click
it, and then when I try to hibernate, it doesn't come up when I press shift.
Today I tried to view a PowerPoint Presentation and when I prressed F5 or
other ways to view it, it didn't work.
Also, when the computer is like this, when I click on the beginning of the
second paragraph to highlight it, it would start highlighting from the from
the first paragraph. This happens on all pages such as webpages and Word
Documents.
These computer modes occur at random moments when I start up the computer
and to rectify the problem I shut down and then it is OK, but at random times
it plays up.
What is happening to my computer? What can I do to fix the problem?
All help would be greatly appriciated.

This didn't help at all.
I didn't understand what you were talking about when you meant switch to
View, but I tried many combinations of holding the shift key and switching
back to Thumbnails/Filmstrip. Nothing happened.

I have turned the Hibernation on and off, but I'm not sure that will do
anything.

Oh my goodness.
It worked!
You are the best.

Sorry, I just didn't understand what you were implying before.
I think you needed to specify I had to change to Tile view.
How did you ever come across this?
And how could I have removed the text in the first place?

Cool.
I still have the other problems to fix now.
If it happens again anytime soon, I'll jot down the error message.
Thanks again.
