Can't get Windows Mail to work

Hashim Javed

Hi. I have tried to create an account in windows mail. But somehow it never
logs me in whenever I want to send or receive emails. A popup just keeps on
asking user id and password even though its already saved. I have tried
creating different accounts for different email services including live
mail and yahoo mail but I keep on getting this error message for Yahoo:
Account: 'Yahoo', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR [SYS/PERM] pop not allowed for user.', Port: 995,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

and for Live Mail : Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR command failed', Port: 995,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

I tried unchecking he box for secure SSL connection. Even though it doesn't
prompt for username and password, it still gives the error message. Please
tell me how can I get Windows Mail to work!

US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail access only, no
POP access. Windows Mail handles POP mail but not webmail.
Yahoo's solution is for you to get their premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/overview/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

Free Hotmail and Live accounts have webmail access only, no POP access.
They won't work in Windows Mail.

The newer Windows Live Mail program does accommodate Hotmail and Live
accounts: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
You are welcome to upgrade to it.
